Jeep Cherokee vs Jeep Grand Cherokee

December 1st, 2022 by

While the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee have similar names, these SUVs are fairly different when it comes to capabilities and style. You might like one or the other depending on what type of driver you are and what you need the Jeep for.

Which used Jeep SUV is best for your needs and those of your family? In this blog post, we’ll discuss the similarities and differences between a used Jeep Grand Cherokee and a used Jeep Cherokee so you can make up your own mind.

Jeep Cherokee Vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee: Size and Space

The biggest difference between these two Jeep models is their size: the Jeep Cherokee is a small crossover SUV, and the Grand Cherokee is a midsize SUV. This means that, while both Jeep models have seating for up to 5 passengers, the Grand Cherokee is a bit roomier and has more space for cargo.

That’s not to say that the Jeep Cherokee is lacking in space, of course! It’s still plenty of roomy and offers split-folding rear seats to increase the amount of cargo space to 54.7 cubic feet, which is plenty for most use cases. However, if you need a truly large amount of room for your gear, the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s seats fold down to hold up to 68.3 cubic feet.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Vs. Jeep Cherokee: Power and Efficiency

Along with its larger size, the Jeep Grand Cherokee features more power than the Jeep Cherokee. Its base trim is powered by a 3.6-L V6 outputting 295 hp and 260 lb-ft. of torque. In contrast, the Jeep Cherokee’s base model features a 2.4-L inline-4 engine, providing 180 hp and 171 lb-ft. However, a benefit of that less powerful engine is the better gas mileage.

Of course, both models feature available upgrades for their engines, allowing you to dial in your desired balance between power and efficiency. In fact, one of the benefits of buying a used Jeep is that you’re more likely to find the exact balance you’re looking for on our lot.

Jeep Cherokee Vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee: Safety and Technology Features

With both of these models, you’ll find a wealth of technology features to enjoy. Both SUVs come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a number of other available infotainment features to enhance every drive.

Both models also come with available driver-assist and active safety features, such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Parking Sensors, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Mitigation System, Lane Departure Warning, and more.
